Departments of the faculty:

The faculty trains specialists of the Uzbek language and literature of the following fields: 

  •      5111200 – Teaching the Uzbek language and literature  
  •      5111201 – The Uzbek language and literature (Uzbek literature)

The faculty of the Uzbek language and literature was founded at Tashkent state pedagogical university named after Nizamiy (present TSPU) in 1935. Initially, it was named as “ Faculty of the Uzbek language and literature”  (1950) , later it was called “ History-philology faculty” and from 1968 it became “Faculty of philology”. In 1976, “Uzbek and Kazakh philology” and “Russian and Tatar philology” faculties were established.

         From the days of foundation, specialists of the Uzbek language and literature, the Russian language and literature, the Kazakh language and literature (1953), the Tatar language and literature (1968), the Russian language  for national schools (1972-1981) have been trained.    

Famous oriental linguists, such as O.Sharafiddinov, Maksud Shayxzoda, Utkir Rashid, G.Abdurahmonov, M.Askarova, N.Mallaev, S.Usmonov, M.Bekbergenov, H.Sulaymon, A.Shermatov, A.Boboxonov, T.Aydarov, T.Boboev worked at the faculty.  Since the faculty was established different well-known linguists, philologists, and orientalists have contributed to the faculty’s prosperity. The faculty has also trained prominent writers, scientists and journalist of our country.  Hamid Gulom, Shuhrat, Mamarasul Boboev, Mirmuhsin, Shukrullo, Zulfiya, Pulat Mumin, Vosit Sadulla, Zafar Diyor, Said Ahmad, Hakim Nazir, Turob Tula, Uktam Usmonov, Khayriddin Saloh, Yusuf Shomansur, Nizom Komil are the best examples of  famous graduates and among them, there are more than 40 holders of different state and republican awards.

According to  Decree 4797 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan  on 13 May, 2016, "On establishment of the Tashkent State University of Uzbek language and literature named after Alisher Navoi the faculty has been included into the newly opened university and renamed as     “ Faculty of teaching the Uzbek language and literature”

Priorities of the faculty:

  • Training highly qualified specialists who possess the knowledge of the Uzbek language and literature and its features, modern educational technologies;
  • Making use of  broad opportunities of the Uzbek language and literature teaching students to have a broad horizon, personal opinion, respect to universal traditions and possess high spirituality. Moreover, the graduates of the university are expected to be able to think independently being loyal to their motherland;
  • The graduates are supposed to investigate new and effective methods of teaching the Uzbek language and literature at schools, academic lyceums, colleges and higher education establishments, put into practice advance-guard pedagogical technologies.

      For the time being, the faculty comprises 5 departments. About 40 professor-teachers, 6 of whom are doctors of philology, professors, 11 candidates of science, associate professors, are   successfully carrying out their duties.   

      1.DEPARTMENT OF THE UZBEK LANGUAGE TEACHING METHODOLOGY – Target research areas are the modern literary Uzbek language in the levels of continuous education, semasiology, written speech, rhetoric, theoretical issues of the Uzbek language teaching methodology (Head of department: Z.Kholmonova; members: D.Lutfullayeva, M.Saparniyazova, N.Ahmedova, N.Sayidirahimova, T.Yusupova, Z.Juraboyeva);


Uzbek literature teaching methodology in continuous education level specializes in the theoretical issues of literature education, literary process and the issues of literary criticism, investigating Uzbek literature based on foreign experience. This department deals with instructing students to the theoretical and practical issues of Uzbek literature and its teaching, more precisely, studying literature, textual study, the acquisition of literary text and   creating skills for its explanation, Uzbek literature and its teaching based on developed foreign experience. Linguistics, more specifically, the usage of modern pedagogical technologies in Uzbek linguistics teaching is investigated in information technologies in the Uzbek language teaching.  (Head of department: S.Muhamedova; members: Y.Eshmatova)


 The Uzbek language and literature assists in teaching how to implement the knowledge of pedagogy and psychology fruitfully. This department delivers lessons on the history and theoretical basics of pedagogy, psychology and the issues of educational upbringing.

      The fruitfulness of the organization and implementation of scientific researches in terms of the university scientific schools. 


These days, the successors of the scientific schools of such well-known scholars like professor M. Askarova, professor S. Ashirboyev and professor N.Mahmudov connected their professional career with our university.


The aim of teaching Uzbek literature is to introduce foreign experience and use new technologies and modern tools of information. Putting into practice collaborative scientific projects with prominent  methodologist-professors of most developed countries, in addition to organizing international seminars and continuous cooperation are our agenda


Introducing information and modern technologies into linguistics is currently being investigated.  

      Inheritance in scientific schools and their recognition; systematic approach to the departments’ activity; the methods of organizing researches.

Prof. A. Erkinov and a candidate of science Z.Mirzayeva, the members of  the department of Uzbek literature teaching, are currently contributing to the implementation of foreign countries’ experience.  

      The availability of scientific laboratories, their state and provision.

The procedure of designing psychological diagnostic laboratories under the faculty departments is under consideration.

      Sectorial and academic scientific-research centers, setting up scientific researches on the stems of different organizations. 

Faculty RTM is carrying out scientific researches in close corporation with  “Akademnashr”, “Cho‘lpon”, “Tamaddun” publisher, “Ma'rifat”, “O‘zbekiston adabiyoti va san'ati”, “Kitob dunyosi” gazetalari, “Sharq yulduzi”, “O‘zbek tili va adabiyoti”, “Til va adabiyot ta’limi” based on their orders.
