Problems of broad introduction and further perfection of Latin Alphabet based Uzbek Language

There has been much talk on the problems of Alphabet and orthography of the Uzbek language and they are still on the agenda. One of the main (current) tasks of Alisher Navo’i Tashkent state university of Uzbek language and literature are precisely the issues of Alphabet and orthography.

Scientific-practical conference on the topic of  “Problems of broad introduction and further perfection of Latin Alphabet based Uzbek Language” was held at Alisher Navo’I Tashkent state university of Uzbek language and literature on October 22, 2018.

On this conference, jointly  established by  the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, The Academy of Sciences of the Republic of  Uzbekistan,  Democratic Party “Milliy Tiklanish” of Uzbekistan, Democratic Party “ Xalq” of Uzbekistan, Press and Information Agency of Uzbekistan, The Youth’s Union and TSUULL many propositions on further perfection of Latin Alphabet based Uzbek language were presented.

The chairman of the Committee of the youth, sports and culture at the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Iqbol Mirzo, Public Poet of Uzbekistan, S. Otamurodov, the chairman of the central committee of the Democratic Party, N.  Makhmudov, professor, the principal of Uzbek Language, literature and folklore institution of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, R. Khamidov, chief specialist of  the central committee of Democratic Party “ Xalq” spoke and cited that the issues of Alphabet and orthography are important factors in the  life of the society  and the state.

The rector of TSUULL Shukhrat Sirojiddinov emphasized that special workers’ group has done a number of works on this issue since the early days of the university. TSUULL has observed the opinions of the public in 3 years and 3 different samples of Alphabet, which was improved according to these ideas, were publicly discussed.

The results of the analysis were announces to eloquent linguistic scientists, collaborators of Ministries and organizations, public representatives during the conference. N. Makhmudov, professor, the principal of Uzbek language, literature and folklore institution at The Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan mentioned that there is no perfect Alphabet on the globe, even there is a big gap between the spelling and pronunciation of the English Language: “But in the era of information we need to improve our writing. We need create Uzbek-language software and reach the writing, which is advantageous for foreigners who intend to learn Uzbek. It shows that some peculiarities of the language should be reformed,” says the scholar.

The exhibition of books in Uzbek, published in the Latin alphabet by the largest publishing houses in Uzbekistan, has attracted great interest. For over a quarter of a century millions of scientific, educational, artistic, publicistic, psychological and the works in other spheres have been published, which have already become the property of booklovers.

Today a group of scholars, observers and government officials from Kazakhstan were attended the conference and they stated that they would rely on Uzbek experience to create a Kazakh alphabet based on the new Latin alphabet.  The conference was full of interesting discussions. All opinions were analyzed and agreed to prepare the draft decision.
